A Real Guide Book,
Most guide books to Scotland feature glossy photographs of the beautiful and rugged landscape (taken on one of our rare sunny days): the sort of pictures that entice tourists to come from far and wide. Such books include a sparse amount of text, though, usually detailing only the best-known tourist spots and accommodation (best-known as opposed to BEST). Not so with Frommer’s Scotland, which is a triumph of substance over style. It’s a welcome change from the jumped-up photo books that masquerade as guide books. For prospective visitors to Scotland who wish to have a WEALTH of information at their fingertips, this is the perfect book. It contains useful maps, suggested itineraries, food & drink guides, snippets of history, a guide to responsible tourism, travel/accommodation information, lists of leisure activities and just about everything else a visitor to Scotland could need.
If you plan to visit Scotland and want a useful guide, don’t waste your money on one of the jumped-up photo books. Buy this instead: a real guide book. The only photo’s the one on the cover, but the information inside is thorough and accurate.

Great Way to Research Scotland,
We used this book to do some of our research on Scotland’s many options and brought it along as we toured. We selected it based on the other, more indepth review and were not disappointed. We only had 3 days and had to get the most of each moment. Our one day in Edinburgh and 2 in the highlands were helped by the information from this book along with the excellent tour guide we hired for the highlands.

Packed with useful info,
Previous editions had more “top ten” lists, which were helpful; but this still is a very useful guide to attractions, places to stay and places to eat.
