Love these books.,
You can see from my purchases that I own a lot of travel books. As I have gotten older I have been changing my travel style and with that, I need different books to address my new travel style. DK Eyewitness Top 10 is great as it really lays out the MUST things to do in a location. Then it gives you various top 10 lists for different contingencies, e.g. Top 10 things to do if it rains, Top 10 things for a romantic afternoon, etc. I still couple my travels with the standard Lonely Planet and do so dependent upon the destination, but these have been great little infromational tools. If you are headed to Amsterdam and want to know the best coffeeshops or the smart shops, don’t bother. These books are aimed at adult travel as I call it. They’ll detail the nice restaurants, nice lodging, exhibits in museums, aspects of cathedrals, and areas of a park, but won’t discuss the risky aspects that epitomize backpacking.

Nathanael Greene "targeted father"
Northern Ligthts and Sagas,
“DK Eyewitness Travel” series books are my benchmark for good travel books for any place.
This “DK Eyewitness Travel” book on Iceland book is, unfortunately for a prospective traveler, physically smaller than the standard size of the other books in the “DK Eyewitness Travel” series. This book is small enough to fit into your wallet. The color photo illustrations are comparatively small and hard to view. Otherwise, this book is of the same caliber of quality and format as other “DK Eyewitness Travel” series’ books – which means this book is better than any other travel book about Iceland I know of.
My overwhelming preference for this “DK Eyewitness Travel” book is particularly due to its (diminutive) color photos, the “sine qua non” of a good travel book about Iceland.
This book’s small size is undoubtedly due to economics. Iceland’s entire population is only 320,000 people. Iceland’s tiny population simply cannot remotely support enough hotels to accommodate the volume of people who must want to visit Iceland – one of the most fascinating and geographically beautiful places to visit on earth, sans palm trees.
Few hotels = few tourists = diminutive “DK Eyewitness Travel” guide, as an economically viable publishing proposition.
My 4 star rating is based on this book’s comparison to the other travel books I have seen about Iceland, a lack of competition which probably even merits 5 stars for this book. However, for AMAZON.com customers who are book shopping on the Internet, who are already familiar with the standard sizes of most travel books in the “DK Eyewitness Travel” series, this book’s economically understandable (and unfortunate) small size, may somewhat disappoint prospective purchasers.

disappointing tiny photos in Kindle edition,
I love the eyewitness series with their glossy pages and gorgeous photos. I bought this in the Kindle edition thinking that the photos would be just as wonderful on an ipad or kindle fire. I was very disappointed. I don’t know if the print edition is better or not, but the photos in the kindle edition are tiny and not having the gorgeous photos to look at with the text took all the fun out of having an eyewitness guidebook
